Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has faced some of the most formidable bowlers in the game throughout his career. Recently, he was asked to single out the bowler who posed the greatest challenge for him, and Rohit didn’t hesitate to name legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. While Rohit clarified that facing Steyn didn’t give him nightmares, he admitted to meticulously studying over a hundred videos of the celebrated pacer before confronting him on the field.
In an interaction with Dubai Eye 103.8, Rohit praised Steyn’s stature in the game, acknowledging his incredible achievements and the ferocious competitive spirit he brought to every encounter. Despite not always finding success against Steyn, Rohit expressed admiration for the intensity and skill that the South African bowler brought to their battles.
This isn’t the first time Rohit has spoken highly of Steyn. In 2020, he mentioned Steyn as one of the bowlers he admired during the early stages of his career. Recalling his debut ODI series against South Africa in Ireland, Rohit reflected on the challenge posed by Steyn’s pace and skill, alongside other formidable bowlers like Brett Lee. He also commended contemporary bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood for their disciplined approach to bowling.
