Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) young gunslinger Abhishek Sharma made his mark in the history books on Saturday evening, hitting a whirlwind century off only 40 balls during Match 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Abhishek Sharma scored the remarkable innings against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, recording the fifth-fastest century in IPL history. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran expressed her joy after the ton. She leaped with excitement and later hugged Abhishek’s parents after the SRH batter’s century.

Abhishek Turns the Match with Aggressive Stroke Play
Returning in with SRH pursuing a mountainous target of 246, Abhishek turned the match on its head with a show of stroke play without fear. The left-hander unleashed a barrage of sixes and boundaries, taking the attack to a shell-shocked Punjab bowling attack from the beginning. His facility to clear the fence at ease and drive the gaps at will left the bowlers with no solutions.
Abhishek Breaks SRH Records with Quick Century
Abhishek scorched his way to the second-quickest century ever by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman. The quickest hundred remains the record of his opening partner, Travis Head, who completed the milestone in 39 balls last year against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The two have rewritten the batting template for SRH with their aggressive and fearless attitude at the top.
The fastest century record overall for the IPL still lies in the indomitable hands of Chris Gayle, who decimated the Pune Warriors with a 30-ball hundred in 2013, a record which stands even after a decade.
Abhishek Sharma Sets New SRH and IPL Records
Abhishek’s scorching 141 off 55 balls is the new highest individual score by any Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman, surpassing Australian batsman David Warner’s (131) record. It is also the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in IPL history.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma talked about his season’s first half-century in 19 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad made an excellent beginning. His opening teammate, Travis Head, scored his second half-century of the season in 31 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 147/0 in 10.2 overs during a 246-run chase against Punjab Kings.
