Veteran Pakistan Umpire Aleem Dar To Retire After 2024-25 Domestic Season

Aleem Dar, the renowned Pakistan umpire who has officiated in 448 international matches over his two-decade career, announced his retirement at the end of the 2024-25 domestic season.

A highly respected figure in cricket, Dar has been part of the ICC’s Elite and International Panels since 2003. He was awarded the David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year three consecutive times from 2009 to 2011, reflecting his distinguished career.

“Umpiring has been my life for nearly 25 years, and I have cherished the privilege of officiating some of the most iconic matches involving the greatest players of this generation,” Dar said. He also emphasized his commitment to maintaining high standards of sportsmanship and felt honored to work with some of the finest match officials worldwide.

Looking ahead, Dar will focus on his charity work, stating, “All great journeys must eventually come to an end, and the time has come for me to focus fully on my social and charity work. My hospital project and other initiatives are very close to my heart and require my full devotion and attention.”

During his career, Dar officiated in 38 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches between 2008 and 2014 and stayed an impeccable figure in contrast to some of his fellow umpires who faced disciplinary issues.

Dar debuted as a First-Class umpire during the 1998-99 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and has since built a reputation for his player management, calm demeanor, and exceptional decision-making. Currently serving on the PCB’s Elite Panel, Dar remains eligible to officiate in international matches but will now focus on mentoring the next generation of Pakistan umpires.
