RCB Skipper Rajat Patidar Joins Virat Kohli in Exclusive Fifty-Plus Club at Chepauk

Rajat Patidar created history for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by scoring a fifty as captain at Chepauk. With this knock, he became only the second RCB skipper to achieve this milestone, following Virat Kohli. Patidar played a crucial innings of 51 runs during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, March 28.

Notably, Virat Kohli first reached this landmark in 2013. Patidar had already made a name for himself in the 2022 IPL eliminator with a stunning century against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He became the first uncapped player to score a century in an IPL playoff, which instantly turned him into a star. Unfortunately, injuries kept him out of the 2023 season. However, he made a strong comeback in IPL 2024. Due to his consistent performances, RCB appointed him as captain ahead of IPL 2025.

RCB’s Batting Performance Against CSK

To begin with, CSK won the toss and chose to field first. RCB opener Phil Salt gave the team a solid start by attacking Ravichandran Ashwin early. In the second over, he smashed two fours and a six, putting pressure on the bowler. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli struggled to time the ball as he faced both pacers and spinners.

As the innings progressed, Devdutt Padikkal played a quick knock of 27 runs from just 14 balls. He struck two fours and two sixes, keeping the scoreboard moving. However, his innings was cut short when he was caught by CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad off Ashwin’s bowling.

CSK’s Bowlers Take Control

After an aggressive start by RCB, CSK’s bowlers made a strong comeback. Noor Ahmad was the standout performer, picking up three wickets for 36 runs. Additionally, Matheesha Pathirana contributed with two crucial wickets. Meanwhile, Ashwin and Khaleel Ahmed chipped in with one wicket each, restricting RCB’s total.

Overall, Patidar’s half-century and Salt’s aggressive start gave RCB a solid foundation, but CSK’s bowlers ensured they didn’t run away with the game.
