Philadelphia Eagles Win Super Bowl LIX: White House Visit Uncertain

The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs. The squad and fans are celebrating their hard-fought victory, but whether or not they will travel to the White House remains to be seen.

President Donald Trump has yet to issue an official invitation to the Eagles. Veteran offensive lineman and team captain Lane Johnson addressed the possible visit, saying it would be a group decision.

“I’d be honored to go, regardless of who the president is, but we’ll see,” Johnson told Sportico’s Eric Jackson. “It’s ultimately a team decision. I’ll do what’s best for the team.”

Johnson has played all 12 of his NFL seasons with the Eagles and was part of the team in 2018 when controversy arose after their previous Super Bowl win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Trump, who was in office at the time, rescinded the team’s invitation after some players expressed unwillingness to attend due to his criticism of national anthem protests.

After the rescinded invitation in 2018, Trump said, “The 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

Eagles Owner and Players Focus on Celebration

Before the game, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie remained noncommittal about a possible White House visit if his team won. “I just want to win Sunday,” he told Front Office Sports.

Josh Sweat, who delivered an outstanding performance with 2.5 sacks on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, prioritized the team’s celebration. “It’s a great honor, but I’m looking forward to this parade more than anything.”

A championship parade will be held in Philadelphia on Friday to celebrate the Eagles’ victory in Super Bowl LIX. The long-awaited victory celebration will come for both fans and players.
