Cricket fans are excited to see MS Dhoni keep his amazing journey as yet another Indian Premier League (IPL) season plays out. Every IPL season since his international cricket retirement generates conjecture about his future. Now, starting with the 18th edition, fans are yet again questioning if this will be Dhoni’s last season in the iconic yellow jersey of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Notwithstanding the unknown, the seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman is poised to set up three major records in this year.
1. Becoming CSK’s All-Time Leading Run-Scorer
Having made his debut in 2008 for CSK, Dhoni has run 4,669 yards. He is only nineteen runs from overtaking Suresh Raina (4,687 runs) to become the team’s top run-scorer in IPL history. All in all, Dhoni has gathered 5,243 IPL runs, including two years with the recently defunct Rising Pune Supergiants.
2. First Wicketkeeper to 200 IPL Dismissals
Even the most successful wicketkeeper in IPL history, Dhoni is nearing another milestone. Ten more dismissals will make him the first wicketkeeper in tournament history to have 200. Rishabh Pant has 95 dismissals among present players.
3. Oldest Wicketkeeper to Score an IPL Fifty
Should he score a half-century this year, Dhoni would become the IPL’s earliest wicketkeeper-batter in history to record 50 runs in one innings. Former player of Australia and Punjab Kings Adam Gilchrist holds the present record with a fifty at 41 years and 181 days. July will see Dhoni turning 44; he will have an opportunity to alter history.
Dhoni’s appearance in IPL 2025 becomes even more thrilling with these expectations in view. Will he end with another record-breaking season? Fans will be eagerly watching.
