Mumbai City FC played to a 0-0 draw against East Bengal FC in the Indian Super League 2024-25 on Friday at the Mumbai Football Arena. As a result, East Bengal celebrated their 100th ISL match and moved to 10th place with 18 points from 18 games. On the other hand, Mumbai City FC, with their seventh draw, stayed in 6th place with 28 points from 18 matches.
East Bengal FC’s Early Opportunities
East Bengal came out strong early in the match. In the 14th minute, Dimitrios Diamantakos attracted defenders before passing to Naorem Mahesh Singh on the left. Mahesh swiftly made a move and crossed to Nandhakumar Sekar at the far post. Unfortunately, Sekar’s shot was blocked by Phurba Lachenpa, denying East Bengal the lead.
In the 44th minute, Diamantakos had another opportunity, this time from close range. After a pass from Vishnu Puthiya, Diamantakos attempted a header but missed, sending the ball wide of the goal.
Mumbai City FC Misses Key Chances
Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC also had their chances to score. Just four minutes into the second half, Vikram Partap Singh found himself in a good position to break the deadlock. After a cross from Bipin Singh, he was unable to maintain his balance and missed an easy shot from just a few yards away.
Diamantakos Strikes the Post Again
As the match continued, East Bengal had another close call. In the 51st minute, Mahesh made a great run and passed to Diamantakos. The striker’s shot hit the left post, marking East Bengal’s second missed chance from close range.
Jorge Ortiz Creates Dangerous Opportunities
Jorge Ortiz, who came on in the 63rd minute, created two of the best chances for Mumbai City FC. In the 81st minute, he was in open space in the box, but Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made a key save to deny him. Immediately afterward, Ortiz had another chance, but once again, Gill was in the right position to make another save, keeping the score level.

Prabhsukhan Singh Gill was vital to East Bengal’s defense. He made three crucial saves throughout the match, ensuring that Mumbai City FC could not break through.
