Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden fell short in the French Open 2024 men’s doubles, losing to Simone Boleli and Andrea Vavassori. The Indo-Australian pair’s defeat came in an hour and 58 minutes at Court Simonne-Mathieu on June 6. Notably, Bopanna and Ebden had previously defeated Boleli and Vavassori in the Australian Open final earlier in January.
However, Boleli and Vavassori turned the tables this time around, avenging their earlier loss. The Italian duo is set to face the winner of the other semifinal between Marcel Granollers & Horacio Zeballos and another opponent.
Bopanna and Ebden faced challenges throughout the match. While they capitalized on one breakpoint opportunity, they conceded two. In the second set, they fought back strongly, breaking their opponents’ serve twice. Crucially, they prevented Boleli and Vavassori from securing any service breaks.
However, their momentum faltered in the third set. Despite conceding a couple of breaks, Bopanna and Ebden failed to create any opportunities to break Vavassori and Boleli’s serve.
