‘Daunting for KKR, Not RCB!’ – Andy Flower’s Bold Claim Before Season Opener

RCB head coach Andy Flower is optimistic about his team’s chances in IPL 2025. Therefore, he does not consider their opening match against KKR a tough challenge. Instead, he believes KKR should be concerned.

During a pre-match press conference, a journalist asked if facing KKR would be difficult for RCB. However, Flower quickly turned the question around. “Yes, it is very daunting. For KKR! I hope it is an El Clasico tomorrow night. That’ll be a brilliant way to start IPL 2025,” he said.

KKR Holds a Strong Record Against RCB

Historically, KKR has dominated this rivalry. In fact, they have won 20 out of 34 matches against RCB. Moreover, in their last five encounters, KKR emerged victorious four times. RCB’s last win against them came in IPL 2022.

Additionally, both teams will have new captains this season. Ajinkya Rahane will lead KKR, whereas Rajat Patidar will take charge of RCB.

Meanwhile, Flower expressed confidence in Rajat Patidar’s leadership. He assured that the entire team supports him.

“We were conscious of building an experienced side in our recruitment. As a result, they will provide great support to Rajat. I think he is really excited about this challenge, and we’re right behind him,” Flower said.

Flower Warns About KKR’s Spin Attack

However, Flower acknowledged the strength of KKR’s Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. Since both spinners have performed consistently, he expects them to be key threats.

“Chakravarthy is in really good form, and we know about Narine over many years. But that’s why you play this game—to test yourself against the best in the world. That’s one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of international cricket and the IPL,” he explained.

Modern Batters Are Getting Stronger

Furthermore, Flower highlighted how batting is evolving. He believes players are becoming more powerful and scoring bigger runs.

“A lot of the batters are becoming bigger and stronger and are recognizing the importance of it. But there’s still a place in the game for players like Virat Kohli. He’s a super fit, strong young man. There’s space for high-quality, highly intelligent cricketers like him as well,” he added.
