India will be hosting the subsequent two major events of the International Cricket Council (ICC), beginning with the Women’s World Cup 2025 and followed by the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted with Sri Lanka. With India ready to stage these international events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in the dock regarding the choice of venues.
Five Venues For Women’s World Cup 2025
The Women’s World Cup 2025, which is set to take place in September, has five venues shortlisted by Sportstar. The tournament’s opening ceremony and inaugural match will be held in Visakhapatnam, whereas Mullanpur, Indore, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati will be the other host cities.
The final is likely to be held in Indore or Guwahati. Interestingly, none of these cities hosted any match during the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup, although Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati hosted warm-up matches.
The report also points out that Mumbai and Vadodara were initially in the running but were eliminated because of fears about the monsoon season impacting matches. The BCCI decided on a five-venue format to simplify logistics. These venue choices have been forwarded to the ICC for approval, and once that is done, an official confirmation and site visits will be conducted.
This is India’s first time in 12 years hosting the Women’s World Cup, with the previous instance being in 2013 when there were matches in Mumbai and Cuttack.
Indian men’s cricket team, however, is not short of work as it will host West Indies and South Africa. West Indies will play two Tests against India, whereas South Africa will tour for two Tests, three T20Is, and five ODIs. It is reported that at a BCCI apex council meeting, conducted prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) opener, it was agreed that Guwahati will host a Test match for the first time when India plays South Africa. Delhi will host the series opener and Mohali and Kolkata will host the red-ball matches against West Indies.
