India’s Dominance in White-Ball Cricket
India’s win over New Zealand in the final on March 9 in Dubai earned their second ICC white-ball title in a year, having previously won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team showcased outstanding dominance in the tournament, winning four comprehensive victories before they hoisted the trophy.
They began their campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh and then a six-wicket win over Pakistan. A dominant 44-run victory over New Zealand in the group stages and a four-wicket victory over Australia in the semi-final ensured their passage to the final, where they defeated New Zealand again.
BCCI Praises Team India’s Performance
In a press release, BCCI President Roger Binny thanked the team, stating, “Winning successive ICC titles is special, and this award rewards Team India for their commitment and excellence on the international platform. This was our second ICC Trophy in 2025, after the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup title, reflecting on the robust cricketing ecosystem of our nation.”
BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia stressed the importance of India’s supremacy in white-ball cricket, saying, “The commitment and dedication of the players have established a new benchmark. This triumph has justified India’s number-one ranking in world cricket, and we are confident that the team can go on to do greater things in years to come.”
Vice-President Rajeev Shukla pointed out the mental strength of the team, stating, “The players showed great calmness under pressure, and their achievement is a source of inspiration for budding cricketers throughout the nation. Indian cricket has a solid foundation of skill, mental strength, and a winning attitude.”
Strengthening Indian Cricket’s Future
BCCI Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia repeated the board’s pledge to promote Indian cricket when he said, “This victory further reinforces the depth and calibre of talent at all levels.
