Asian Cricket Council Announces First-Ever Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup

In a major step towards boosting women’s cricket, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially launched the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup, as announced on Wednesday. This significant decision was made during the ACC Executive Board Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to an official statement.

The ACC has confirmed that the Women’s U19 Asia Cup will take place every two years, serving as a vital tournament ahead of each ICC Women’s U19 World Cup. By providing young female cricketers in Asia the chance to compete internationally, this event aims to offer invaluable experience and help Asian teams enhance their global performance.

This pioneering initiative is expected to greatly improve the visibility of women’s cricket across the region, contributing to its growth and popularity. For the first time, the ACC has created a structured development path for young female athletes, underscoring its dedication to promoting gender equality and nurturing talent at all levels.

Jay Shah, the newly-elected ICC Chairman and current ACC President, said, “Today marks a pivotal moment for cricket in Asia. The introduction of the Women’s U19 Asia Cup is a monumental achievement, providing a much-needed platform for young women cricketers to develop their skills and showcase their talent. This initiative strengthens the future of women’s cricket in Asia, and we are proud of the lasting impact these decisions will have, not only within our member nations but across the global cricketing community.”
