A special advisory has been issued in Haryana’s Faridabad and Gurugram districts regarding the G20 summit that will begin on Saturday in New Delhi. While issuing the advisory, the Gurugram administration advised all corporate and private organisations to direct their employees to work from home. The administration hopes that doing so will help control traffic on National Highway (NH) 48. Further instructions state that the employees of such companies and local people should travel only when necessary.
Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has appealed to the people that all citizens should be careful about travelling between 8 and 10 September and asked residents to leave their houses only when necessary to avoid crowding or congestion. In the advisory issued by the Gurugram administration, all corporate offices and private institutions in the district have been advised to direct their employees to work from home tomorrow i.e. on 8 September 2023. However, this is likely to cause some amount of inconvenience to people, especially those who need to travel.
A similar advisory has also been issued by the Faridabad Police. The police administration has appealed to the people to travel by metro instead of using private vehicles. The administration has said that the entry of commercial vehicles will be completely closed from 12:00 midnight on 8 September, and will remain shut till 10 September. In such a situation, people may face a lot of difficulty in commuting, so it is best to follow the advisory, police officials have said.
As the current president of the grouping, India is hosting the summit this year. The G20 summit will be held on 9 and 10 September. In light of this, the administration has declared the New Delhi district in the national capital as a controlled area. For this reason, the Delhi Police has cordoned off many roads and ordered the closure of services leading to this controlled area. For the duration of the G20 meeting, authorities decided to keep offices, shops, car parking, and DTC depots closed in the controlled areas. People travelling from Ghaziabad to Gurugram have been advised to use Ring Road via Okhla and Noida. However, in the process, the total distance that commuters need to travel may increase. Commuters from Faridabad to Sonipat have also been asked to use the Outer Ring Road i.e. try to avoid entering Delhi as much as possible, especially the New Delhi area by road. Despite these road closures and diversions, Delhi Metro services will continue uninterrupted—except in the controlled areas. In such a situation, travellers and commuters from Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad can use the metro to travel to Delhi, right up till the last station where Metro provides its services. There is no restriction on these services. Neither is there a restriction on going to the Delhi airport via metro.
Other instructions from the advisory include carrying the National ID card while travelling by road. Commuters have been asked to leave well before time if travelling by road. A traffic advisory has been issued by Rewari Police regarding the G20 summit. According to the advisory, from 12 midnight of 7 September to 12 midnight of 10 September, all heavy and light commercial vehicles going from Rewari to Delhi will be prohibited from entering Delhi. Heavy and commercial vehicles going from Jaipur to Delhi, Gurugram have been diverted from NH-48 to NH-352 by Rewari Police. Therefore, heavy and commercial vehicles should use NH-352 or other alternative routes. Apart from this, there will be a blockade by Rewari police at other places on the highway as well.
