A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Ethiopia on Friday, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and covered by the Jerusalem Post. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), according to EMSC.

Earlier, Anadolu Ajansi reported a volcanic eruption at Mount Dofan in central Ethiopia. The region has recently been experiencing frequent minor tremors, which have raised concerns about the possibility of a major disaster, particularly in the Awash Fentale region, located about 142 miles (230 kilometers) from Addis Ababa.

Over the past few weeks, the area has experienced more than a dozen minor earthquakes, leading residents to worry. Regional Administrator Abdu Ali stated that authorities are working to prevent casualties by relocating residents at risk to safer areas, as reported by the state-owned Fana Broadcasting Corporation.

The tremors continue to intensify, with the most recent one being felt in Addis Ababa overnight, Ali added.
