DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran has said that he will make an appeal to the party high command asking them to field DMK Youth wing president and M.K Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin from the Chepauk constituency in the 2021 State Assembly elections.
When addressing the party workers at a function in Chennai, Dayanidhi Maran made this pitch amidst cheering from the party members. Chepauk, traditionally a DMK bastion, has become vacant after the MLA J.Anbazhagan passed away 4 months ago due to Covid-19 infection.
Dayanidhi Maran, MP from Central Chennai Parliamentary constituency under which the Chepauk assembly constituency comes, has made this appeal when there are murmurs inside the party that the third generation from the Karunanidhi family will be fielded in the upcoming elections.
When Udhayanidhi Stalin addressed the cadres after Dayanidhi Maran, he added that. “I don’t have the right to answer the appeal, only the party president and people of Tamil Nadu can decide. Will obey to what the party president decides”.
It is alleged that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s interference during the recent appointment of his close confidant to the post of district secretary in Chennai is said to be the main reason for the exit of a sitting MLA Ku Ka Selvam from the party who became a supporter of BJP.
Sources add that DMK might contest the maximum number of seats in the upcoming elections leaving small space for the alliance partners and it has to wait and watch whether Udhayanidhi Stalin will be given a party ticket for the 2021 elections.
