Security forces in Kashmir have heightened their vigilance in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Jammu on Tuesday. In a proactive measure, additional troops have been deployed to counter any potential threats, with snipers positioned on rooftops near the venue where PM Modi is slated to address a massive gathering. Furthermore, an anti-drone system has been installed to mitigate any airborne threats, officialsa confirmed.
Reports indicate that police and paramilitary units are conducting random vehicle checks at various locations in the city and surrounding areas. Special inspection points have also been established at entry and exit locations across the city. These measures aim to prevent any potential subversive activities by terrorists during the Prime Minister’s significant visit to the Union Territory.
Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit marks his second trip to Jammu and Kashmir in his current term. He is expected to unveil several development projects, including the inauguration of the AIIMS hospital in Jammu, the world’s highest railway bridge spanning the Chenab River, and the Devika River project in Udhampur. Additionally, Modi is anticipated to remotely initiate the inaugural train on the Sangaldan-Baramulla rail link and address a public rally in Jammu later in the day.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, conducted a security review meeting to assess the situation in the valley. Senior officers from various security agencies attended the meeting, which aimed to enhance security arrangements in anticipation of VVIP visits to the Union Territory and other upcoming events.
Birdi stressed the importance of maintaining increased vigilance, particularly during nighttime, to mitigate potential threats posed by terrorists. He urged officers to enhance intelligence gathering and anti-terror operations while reinforcing security measures at vulnerable points, especially during significant events.
Special attention was given to enhancing security along critical areas such as the National Highway, tunnels, minority pickets, and other vital locations. Clear instructions were issued to enhance security measures, including surprise checkpoints, in both uptown and downtown areas of Srinagar. Additionally, round-the-clock patrolling and increased presence at entry and exit points throughout the district were emphasized.
The IGP also underscored the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructed border district heads to maintain strict vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland to prevent potential terror activities.
