The encounter, held at Mumbai’s Wankhede ground, witnessed South Africa posting a formidable total of 399 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. In stark contrast, the England team endured a swift collapse, being dismissed for a mere 170 runs in just 22 overs.
Heinrich Klaasen was the star of the show, making a scintillating century on 61 balls, amassing 109 runs in the process. His remarkable performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade. South Africa’s dominance extended further as three players from their squad achieved half-centuries. On the bowling front, Gerald Cooties shone, claiming a trio of crucial wickets. Yanson also played a pivotal role, contributing 75 runs in 42 balls and securing two wickets.
In an interview on the Dafa News Cricket Show, Zimbabwe national player and coach Tasmin Granger shared statistics from the match between England and South Africa, saying that, “In their ODI history, England and South Africa have met 70 times, with South Africa winning 34 matches. In India, they’re evenly matched with two wins each, and their head-to-head record in World Cup games stands at eight encounters. Joe Root’s World Cup record of 21 matches equals that of England legends Ian Bell and Graham Gooch. Reeza Hendricks made a remarkable World Cup debut, scoring 85 runs and ranking as South Africa’s third-highest debut score, surpassing performances by Gary Kirsten and David Miller.
Heinrich Klaasen’s century marked South Africa’s fifth century in the ongoing tournament and earned him a spot in the list of the sixth-fastest World Cup centuries. His partnership with Marco Johnson set a new record for South Africa’s highest 6th or lower wicket partnership in ODIs. South Africa’s consistent high scores continued with a total of 399-7, making it the second-highest ODI score at Wankhede. Their remarkable 229-run victory against England marked the largest defeat ever for England in ODIs, and it placed South Africa at the top of the list for the most wins by 200 or more runs in World Cup history.”

The Netherlands, despite a challenging start at 91-6, displayed remarkable resilience, adding 171 runs for a total of 262.
This comeback made them second in World Cup history for runs added after losing six wickets, with India holding the top spot at 189 runs against Zimbabwe in 1983. The Netherlands also set a new World Cup record with a 130-run seventh-wicket partnership by Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek, eclipsing India’s 1983 record. This partnership became the Netherlands’ fourth-highest for the third or lower wicket and second-highest in World Cup history, trailing a 228-run partnership against Namibia in 2003. The Netherlands’ 262 runs marked their fourth-highest World Cup total, with scores of 314/4, 306, and 292/6 surpassing it.”
