Star batsman Shubman Gill expressed his joy upon being named the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the upcoming 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a video released by the Gujarat-based franchise, the 24-year-old shared his feelings after being appointed as the leader of the IPL 2022 champions, stating that it will likely take until the team plays their first match for the realization to truly set in.
«It›s probably going to take until we play our first match for it to fully sink in. It›s a fantastic feeling. I was around 7 or 8 years old when the IPL started. Clearly, it›s a dream for any aspiring cricketer to play in the IPL, let alone captain a team. It›s a significant connection within this team, and it feels amazing,» remarked Gill.
When questioned about captaincy, the new skipper of GT emphasized the importance of commitment, discipline, hard work, and loyalty in leading a team. He also mentioned that there will be numerous new lessons that will contribute to his growth as a captain.
«We all understand that captaincy comes with various responsibilities, and commitment, discipline, hard work, and loyalty are among them. Drawing from my experience playing under great leaders, such as Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, David Miller, and Wriddhiman Saha, I believe the lessons learned from their leadership will aid me significantly in this IPL. We have exceptional leaders in our team, and there will undoubtedly be many lessons along the way, which is part of gaining experience as a captain. I foresee many people creating wonderful memories,» he concluded.
