Giving an impetus to the saffron party ahead of October 5 polls, Ambala Mayor Shakti Rani Sharma on Sunday joined the BJP. Her joining BJP is sure to benefit the party in many districts falling on the GT Road belt, political observers have said. Hailing from a family that has great political legacy, she has impressed everyone with her style of functioning and development works she carried out in the city.

Shakti Rani Sharma’s family holds a significant position in Haryana politics. She is the wife of former Union Minister and Haryana Jan Chetna Party chief Venod Sharma. He has been playing an important role in promoting the community and other sections of the society. He has also been at the forefront of raising many social issues. Shakti Rani Sharma’s son Kartikeya Sharma, backed by the BJP, was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He has been raising issues associated with all sections of the society, both inside and outside the House.

Through the successful organisation of Brahmin Sammelan, he has proved his mettle representing himself as the strong Brahmin face in the state politics. Though there are many Brahmin stalwarts in BJP in Haryana, at present the party is looking for such a face who can unite the people of the community in terms of electoral support. With the joining of Shakti Rani Sharma, the BJP has got a shot in the arm. She is most likely to play a key role in wooing voters from the community. She being a woman leader, the BJP is expected to get the support of woman voters.
