In a remarkable initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Solapur on January 19 for the second time in a week, symbolizing the government’s commitment to housing and urban development. District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil announced that the Prime Minister would hand over 15,024 homes to beneficiaries from economically weaker sections as part of the PM Awas Yojana. This visit follows Modi’s recent appearances in Mumbai and Nashik on January 12 for various inaugurations and events.
The housing project in Solapur, conceived under the PM Awas Yojana, includes over 30,000 residential units, with the upcoming distribution marking a significant step in providing affordable housing to deserving families. Additionally, during the public program in Solapur, the PM will lay the foundation stone for eight Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) projects worth approximately Rs 2,000 crore in Maharashtra.
The initiative aims to contribute to urban rejuvenation and transformation, with a focus on creating sustainable and improved living conditions. The PM will also dedicate over 90,000 houses completed under PMAY-Urban in Maharashtra.
As part of the program, Modi will kickstart the distribution of the first and second instalments to 10,000 beneficiaries of PM-SVANIDHI in Maharashtra. The visit aligns with a promise made by the Prime Minister in 2019 when he laid the foundation stone for the Solapur project.
The Solapur housing project, executed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), holds the distinction of being the world’s largest affordable housing plan on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. With a cost per house amounting to Rs 6 lakh, covering an area of 300 square feet, the houses are equipped with essential amenities.
Beneficiaries, including factory workers, peons, salespersons, autorickshaw drivers, beedi workers, and vegetable vendors, will receive a subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh per house, shared between the central and state governments.
The EMI for the loan is estimated to range between Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,500, ensuring affordable monthly payments equivalent to home rent.
The Solapur housing project represents a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing to the economically vulnerable sections of society.
