Katy Perry flew to space on Monday with five other women. Together, they became the first all-female space crew in over six decades. They traveled aboard Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission.

Flight Takes Off from Texas

First, the rocket launched from West Texas. The flight lasted 11 minutes and returned safely to Earth. During the trip, the crew reached the edge of space and experienced weightlessness.

Then, Blue Origin shared a video of the moment. The women floated and smiled as they moved in zero gravity. As a result, the clip quickly went viral on social media. The crew looked, as described, “weightless and limitless.”

Meet the Six Space Travelers

The six-member crew included:

  • Katy Perry, pop star

  • Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos’s fiancée

  • Gayle King, CBS host

  • Aisha Bowe, ex-NASA scientist

  • Amanda Nguyen, scientist and activist

  • Kerianne Flynn, film producer

Moreover, their rocket, New Shepard, reached 107 kilometers above Earth. This altitude crosses the Kármán line, the recognized boundary of space.

After experiencing zero gravity, the crew returned to their seats. At that moment, Katy Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. She also carried a daisy to honor her daughter, Daisy.

After landing, she said, “I feel super connected to love.”

A Historic Moment for Women

Until now, the U.S. had never sent an all-women crew to space. In fact, the only all-female mission in history happened in 1963. Back then, Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to enter space.

Blue Origin has not revealed the cost of the flight. It also hasn’t confirmed who paid for it.
