Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of India announced on Thursday that the Supreme Court will be incorporating WhatsApp messaging services to relay information to advocates regarding filing, listing, and other pertinent matters.

He emphasized that this seemingly small initiative has the potential to yield significant impacts. Recognizing WhatsApp’s widespread use as a potent communication tool in daily life, the CJI highlighted its role in bolstering access to justice and transparency within the judicial system.

The integration of WhatsApp messaging services with the Supreme Court’s IT infrastructure is aimed at fortifying these principles.

Additionally, the CJI noted that this initiative will bring about notable changes in daily work practices while contributing to paper conservation and environmental sustainability. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta commended the move, considering it another groundbreaking initiative by the top court.
