Samba Police files charge-sheet in dowry death case of 24-year-old Jyoti Devi

The Samba police have taken decisive action in the case of the tragic dowry death of 24-year-old Jyoti Devi in Redwan Ramgarh, filing a charge-sheet against five accused, including the deceased’s husband and two other individuals, in the court of law.
The incident, which occurred on June 22, 2023, prompted the police to initiate inquest proceedings at Police Station Ramgarh to determine the cause of Jyoti Devi’s death. Jyoti, who was eight months pregnant and had been married for just a year and a half, died under mysterious circumstances, leading the police to conduct a thorough inquest. The investigation revealed that the young woman had been subjected to cruelty and harassment, with demands for dowry being made by the accused shortly before her untimely demise.
The police converted the inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC into FIR No.69/2023 under sections 304-B and 313 of the IPC, launching a formal investigation. Subsequently, five individuals, including the husband, were arrested and are currently in judicial remand.
The police, after meticulous investigation, have substantiated the charges against the five accused and have submitted the challan in the Hon’ble court of Addl. Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba, for judicial determination.
The accused named in the charge-sheet are Kala Ram (husband of the deceased), son of Parkash Chand, Satpal, son of Parkash Chand, Parshotam Lal alias Bodh Raj, son of Parkash Chand, Darshana Devi, wife of Parshotam Lal, and Lovely Rani, wife of Satpal, all residents of Redwan tehsil Ramgarh district Samba.
Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, emphasized that the police are swiftly resolving mysterious death cases, conducting thorough investigations, and bringing to justice all those involved in abetment to suicides, dowry deaths, domestic violence, harassment, and torture of the deceased persons in Samba district.
