Unidentified assailants shot at Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan on Wednesday evening in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district. Azad was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to preliminary reports, two bullets were fired at the Bhim Army chief’s car, one of which grazed Ravan.
“I don’t remember well, but my people identified them,” Azad said in a statement to police. Their car drove to Saharanpur. We made a U-turn. When the incident occurred, there were five of us in the car, including my younger brother.” According to Saharanpur SSP Dr Vipin Tada, a few car-borne armed men fired on the Ambedkarite activist’s convoy.
“Half an hour back, the convoy of Chandra Shekhar Azad was fired at by a few car-borne armed men. A bullet brushed past him. He is alright and has been taken to CHC for medical treatment. Police is investigating the matter,” the officer said.
Photographs of an injured Azad were shared on his Facebook page, urging the police to pursue the perpetrators and provide security for the activist.
