As the ODI World Cup 2023 in India approaches, all ten teams are gearing up for the marquee tournament. Surprisingly, South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, appeared remarkably composed amidst the preparations. During the captains’ meet event in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, Bavuma was spotted in a relaxed state, even taking a brief nap during the press conference.
However, not many can blame the Proteas captain, as he just flew to South Africa from India due to some family reasons. While his team was getting ready for their inaugural match in New Delhi, Bavuma had to make the journey to Ahmedabad for the captains’ meet event.
“It is something relevant to all the teams. A lot of the teams have guys who play in India and have done well in India. I wouldn’t really say it is an advantage for us. All we can really do is have guys who have that experience and knowledge share it amongst teams or use it in terms of strength and plans. I wouldn’t say it is an advantage to us as a team,” said Temba Bavuma during the event.
While certain online fans mocked South Africa, others expressed their support for Bavuma, claiming that one should understand the travelling he has been doing recently. The specific details regarding his personal family reasons for returning to South Africa from India have not been officially disclosed.
