The electoral process to determine the next government in the state has concluded on 25 November. The outcomes, both in terms of the party to lead the government and the fate of individual leaders, are encapsulated within the ballot boxes. Simultaneously, the trajectory of the city’s development is intricately tied to these electoral decisions. Over the past five years, the Congress party has undertaken significant projects, with some currently in progress and others in the planning stages. The continuity and realization of these initiatives now rest on the shoulders of the incoming government.
Should a shift in power occur, these projects have the potential to gain momentum; conversely, a change in government could leave many initiatives in a state of uncertainty. This pattern has been evident in the past, with new administrations often opting to discard or alter the projects initiated by their predecessors. If this trend persists, a change in the state government could leave over a dozen projects undertaken by the Jaipur Development Authority in a state of limbo.
In 2018, following a change in government, numerous projects faced abandonment. The practice of shelving schemes is not a recent phenomenon.
In past administrations, incoming governments often abandoned or completely overhauled many initiatives. The Jaipur Ring Road, initially initiated by the BJP government under former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, witnessed a significant slowdown in construction after a change in government.
The Dravyavati River project was another initiative from the preceding government, and its current status is quite unfavourable. If there is a change in the state government, it is conceivable that the incoming administration might place numerous projects from the prior government on hold. Consequently, several ongoing projects led by the Jaipur Development Authority could also face interruptions.
Even the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), which was a significant project for the people of south and southeastern Rajasthan, was halted. It was introduced by the Raje-led BJP government, however, after the government change in 2018, the project was entangled in a political drama between the BJP and Congress.
The IPD Tower is currently under construction at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, the ongoing construction of the bridge on the B2 Bypass, the Jhotwara Flyover causing inconvenience to local residents, the satellite hospitals being developed in all four directions of Jaipur, the proposed Metro train Phase-2 from Transport Nagar to Sitapura, and the signal-free project targeting traffic congestion at the Laxmi Mandir intersection mark significant developments.
Additionally, plans for signal-free initiatives at various locations like B2 Bypass, Jawahar Circle, OTS Chauraha, JDA Chauraha, Gandhinagar Mod, Rambagh Circle, and Chomu Circle are underway. The city also anticipates future projects, including the construction of four bus stands.
