The Bhajan Lal-led government of Rajasthan has announced a significant update regarding the National Food Security Scheme (NFSS). Families can now add children aged 0–18 to their ration cards, thanks to new guidelines issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
To include a child’s name on a ration card, applicants must apply either online or offline. As Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Sumit Godara highlighted that this process must be done at fair-price shops. Moreover, under the One Nation, One Ration scheme, ration cards will now be available to migrants living in Rajasthan, ensuring that migrant workers registered on the e-Shram portal can also access food security benefits. To add a child’s name to a ration card under the National Food Security Scheme (NFSS) in Rajasthan, applicants must prepare several key documents, including the child’s Aadhaar card, birth certificate, family ration card, parents’ identity cards (such as Aadhaar or voter ID), the child’s photo, and the Jan Aadhaar card. The application process involves obtaining a form from e-Mitra, verifying these documents with the concerned officer, and then submitting the application. Applicants must be permanent residents of Rajasthan and meet certain criteria, such as being a BPL ration card holder, having worked 100 days under the Indira Gandhi NREGA scheme, or being recipients of Indira Gandhi widow or senior citizen pensions, among others.
Additionally, by August 15, 2024, all NFSS beneficiaries are required to complete their E-KYC at fair-price shops. Failure to comply will result in the removal of their names from the food security list and the cessation of ration benefits, as stated by Sumit Godara, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs.
