Following the announcement of the state assembly election results, senior leaders of the Congress reached the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday to meet the outgoing Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Discussions on the election and analysis of the Congress’s defeat were conducted in the Chief Minister’s office. In this meeting, discussions were also held regarding the upcoming meeting of the Congress legislative party scheduled for Tuesday. Gehlot talked to legislators and senior leaders about the Congress’s defeat.
It is worth noting that after implementing various schemes in Rajasthan, the Congress believed that they would be able to repeat their success in power. However, the results of the counting on Sunday favoured the Bharatiya Janata Party. In response to this unexpected outcome, Gehlot has expressed that these results were unexpected for him.
Consequently, he discussed the reasons for this defeat with all the leaders to understand why the Congress government could not be repeated.
Meanwhile, in the Pradesh Congress war room, Pradesh Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra and Pradesh In-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa held a meeting on Monday. The meeting involved brainstorming on various issues related to the organisation, and plans were formulated for future actions of the organisation. Officials from various departments of the Congress were also present in this meeting.
Congress will play a strong role in building a robust opposition: Sachin Pilot
Following Congress’ defeat on Sunday, former Deputy Chief Minister and election winner from Tonk, Sachin Pilot, arrived on Monday. He met with party workers and officials at the District Congress Committee office, stating that they fought the election strongly, but the public had ordered them to sit in the opposition this time. Pilot added that they will review the defeat and play a strong role in building a robust opposition for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Additionally, he mentioned discussions on the party’s strategy in the meeting with Congress legislators scheduled for Tuesday. Despite not achieving the goal of repeating the government, Pilot expressed determination to work as a strong opposition. Sachin Pilot has secured victories in Tonk in the last two elections, defeating BJP’s Ajit Mehta this time by around 30,000 votes. In the 2018 elections, he had defeated BJP’s Yunus Khan by nearly 50,000 votes.
