In the Paris Olympics 2024, PV Sindhu’s journey in the women’s singles badminton event came to an end on Thursday as she was defeated by China’s He Bing Jiao in the Round of 16. The match ended with scores of 19-21, 14-21, marking a tough exit for the two-time Olympic medallist.
Sindhu, who had previously beaten He Bing Jiao to secure a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, struggled to maintain her form against the Chinese shuttler. He Bing Jiao kept Sindhu under constant pressure throughout the match.
Since badminton’s Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992, India has won three medals in the sport. These include Sindhu’s silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020, as well as Saina Nehwal’s bronze at London 2012.
Despite this setback, Sindhu’s past performances have established her as one of India’s leading badminton players.
