In anticipation of Republic Day, the Punjab Police has declared a state of high alert. Addressing the media today, Punjab Police Inspector General Sukhchain Singh Gill revealed that the police are fully alert regarding the gatherings scheduled for January 26, and security measures have been enhanced across all locations.

A total of 18 premises in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, and Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district are under scrutiny. The security responsibilities for all districts have been assigned to top-ranking officers, including Special DGP, ADGP, DIG, and IG levels.

IG Gill highlighted the successful actions against drugs, gangsters, and terrorists in recent days. The police have seized and destroyed 523 kilograms of heroin in the last 15 days, making significant arrests of gangsters and criminals across various districts. A total of 951 criminals have been apprehended from different districts, with 963 weapons recovered, and 4 hardcore criminals detained.

Additionally, Punjab Police and BSF recovered 6 drones in the past week, containing 14 kilograms of heroin and weapons. A meeting of all officers has been conducted to review security measures, and strict directives have been issued to district authorities to ensure robust security.

To further strengthen security, checkpoints have been established, and intensive searches are being carried out in areas prone to unrest, including railway and bus stations. Vigilance has been heightened at borders with the deployment of BSF and Punjab Police. Security measures will be intensified for state-level events on January 26, with thorough vehicle checks throughout Punjab.
