Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted the achievements of the state government in various fields during its 18-month tenure at the pen debate on November 1. He emphasized that the Aam Aadmi government’s 18 months have overshadowed the achievements of previous administrations.
Mann acknowledged the path-breaking initiatives undertaken by the state government for the betterment of all segments of society. He asserted that Punjab has witnessed unprecedented development and progress during this time, becoming a leader in various fields.
The government has increased revenue through financial prudence. Punjab’s own tax revenue increased by 13.2% under the current government, surpassing the 8% figure during the Akali regime (2012-17) and the 6.1% figure during the Congress regime (2017-22).
Infrastructure development has been a priority, with the restoration of canals and water channels. The state government has undertaken canal and water channel repair work on an unprecedented scale, ensuring water supply and alleviating longstanding issues.
In terms of employment, the government has created 37,100 jobs in just 18 months, compared to 56,623 jobs provided by the previous government over a five-year period. Jobs have been awarded based on merit and a transparent process.
Punjab is making significant strides in industrial sectors, attracting investments worth Rs. 57,796 crore and offering employment to nearly 3 lakh youths in just 18 months. This surpasses the investment figures of the previous governments, indicating a positive business environment.
Punjab is leading North India in the registration of 2.98 lakh MSMEs in 2022-2023. The state government has introduced color-coded stamp papers and implemented a single window system for pre-approvals, simplifying the process for industrialists.The government has sought feedback from industrialists through a WhatsApp helpline, making necessary amendments to facilitate business.
Punjab is the first state where there are no power cuts in the domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors. In addition, farmers receive uninterrupted power supply for up to 10 hours per day during the paddy season, benefiting 90% of consumers with zero power bills.
The state government is clearing outstanding power subsidies, resuming coal supply from Pachhwara Coal Mine, saving Rs. 600 crore annually. Health services have been improved with the establishment of Aam Aadmi Clinics and the Sehatmand Punjab Mission.
In the education sector, the government is enrolling students in the School of Eminence, enhancing school infrastructure and sports facilities, and providing free uniforms. It has also initiated regularizations of teachers and staff, benefiting 12,351 teachers so far.
Efforts have been made to improve road safety, including the launch of the Sadak Surakhya Force, aimed at reducing road accidents. The Punjab Police has been successful in cracking down on organized crime and drug smuggling.
The government has also launched the “Khedan Watan Punjab Dia” initiative to encourage youth to participate in sports, leading to a significant increase in sports participation. In addition, the state government has increased ex-gratia grants for the families of martyred soldiers and addressed the issue of power cuts.
Punjab is setting an example by focusing on sports, education, employment, and industrial growth while ensuring a better quality of life for its citizens. The state government is committed to further development and progress in various sectors.
