Following the Pune Porsche accident, police have arrested a prominent Pune realtor who had orchestrated an intricate escape plan. The arrest comes after his 17-year-old son, driving under the influence, caused a fatal crash that left two young engineers dead.
The realtor went on the run soon after an FIR was filed against him for allowing his teenage son to drive the luxury car. To evade capture, he implemented a multi-faceted plan involving several vehicles. Initially, he left home in his own car, directing his driver to head towards Mumbai, while another driver took a different car towards Goa. En route to Mumbai, the realtor switched to a friend’s car and continued his journey to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad. He also switched to a new SIM card to avoid being tracked.
Despite these efforts, police tracked the friend’s car using GPS and analyzed CCTV footage along the route. This led them to a lodge in Sambhajinagar, where the realtor was apprehended during a late-night raid. He is set to appear in court today.
The Pune Porsche accident, which occurred on a Saturday night, has ignited national outrage. The 17-year-old driver, who was speeding at approximately 200 km/h, struck and killed Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshtha, two IT engineers from Madhya Pradesh, as they were returning home on a motorcycle. The teenager was granted bail within 15 hours on conditions that many criticized as lenient, including writing a 300-word essay on accidents, working with traffic police for 15 days, and receiving counseling for his drinking habits.
In response, police have petitioned the juvenile justice board to try the 17-year-old, who is just four months shy of adulthood, as an adult. A decision on this request is expected today. The families of the victims have condemned the swift bail, calling the incident “murder, not an accident.”
