Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accused the central government of intentionally revoking her official residence allotment, just days before the upcoming elections. She claimed that this was the second time in three months that the government has “thrown” her and her family out of their residence, calling it a politically motivated move aimed at obstructing her work.
The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) had withdrawn its offer for Bungalow No. 6 at Flag Staff Road, which had initially been made to Atishi on October 11, 2024. Although the offer was accepted by her representative on October 23, 2024, Atishi never physically moved into the bungalow. Despite several inspections and communications, the PWD rescinded the allotment, citing reasons such as an ongoing CBI investigation and a special audit by the CAG into the bungalow.
The PWD further stated that the bungalow, categorized under the General Pool, was not officially designated for the Chief Minister, and any allotment is automatically cancelled if the designated official does not take possession within five working days after the Habitability Certificate is issued.
Atishi responded to the withdrawal, emphasizing her belief that the central government had once again “thrown” her out of her official residence. She expressed frustration, stating, “This is the second time in three months that the central government threw me out,” and added, “Earlier also, they threw me and my family out of the house. I am thrown out of CM residence.” Despite the setback, Atishi vowed to continue her work, particularly for the women of Delhi, stating, “I pledge every woman of Delhi will get 2200. The more you trouble, the more we work.”
After the cancellation, the PWD has proposed alternative accommodations, such as Bungalow No. 2 at 8 Raj Niwas Lane and Bungalow No. 115 at Ansari Road, with separate letters to be issued for the new properties. The timing of the cancellation, just before the Delhi elections, has raised accusations of political interference, with Atishi’s team suggesting that the central government is using this issue to undermine her ahead of the polls.
