Chhattisgarh CM Calls For Review Of Assembly Bypoll Results

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, a BJP leader, commented on Sunday that the party should review the recent Assembly bypoll results, where the BJP faced setbacks. The opposition INDIA bloc secured victory in 10 out of 13 seats across seven states, while the BJP managed to win only two seats. Sai highlighted the diverse political scenarios across the country and emphasized that in a democracy, the ultimate decision rests with the electorate.

“There are different situations. In a democracy, the decision lies with the people. The results need to be reviewed,” he said.

In response to the bypoll results, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit suggested that had the Lok Sabha election schedule been advanced by 6-8 months, the BJP would have likely secured fewer than 120 seats.

“Right after the look Sabha elections, we have won 12-13 seats in 4-5 states, which clearly indicates that the BJP’s graph has been falling. Had the Lok Sabha elections been organised after 6-8 months, BJP would not have won more than 120 seats,” he said.

“For the first time, NDA parties are performing better than the BJP in their respective states and the BJP is absolutely relying on them… The BJP has multiple organ failures and is failing in multiple states. It is soon headed to an ICU,” he further stated

The results of the recent assembly by-polls were disappointing for the BJP, which secured only two out of the 13 contested seats. The INDIA bloc emerged victorious in 10 seats, with an independent candidate winning one seat in Bihar.

Voting took place on July 10 across seven states: Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. The by-elections were held in a total of 13 seats, distributed as one seat each in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh, two seats in Uttarakhand, three seats in Himachal Pradesh, and four seats in West Bengal.

In Uttarakhand, the BJP lost both of its contested seats to the Congress. Lakhapat Singh Butola won in Badrinath, defeating Rajendra Singh Bhandari by 5,224 votes. In Manglaur, Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin secured victory over BJP’s Kartar Singh Bhadana by a margin of 422 votes.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won two out of three seats. Kamlesh Thakur won from Dehra and Hardeep Singh Bawa from Nalagarh emerged victorious. BJP’s Ashish Sharma secured victory in Hamirpur.

In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a partner of the INDIA alliance, won in Jalandhar West. In Tamil Nadu, another INDIA alliance partner, DMK, secured victory in Vikravandi.

In West Bengal, the All India Trinamool Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, won all four seats, defeating the BJP. In Bihar, neither the BJP-led NDA’s JDU nor the INDIA alliance’s RJD managed to secure a victory.
