Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022, rose to prominence by defeating two-time MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu in the Ludhiana West assembly constituency during the elections.
Gogi’s wife, Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, also contested the Municipal Corporation elections but lost to Congress candidate Inderjit Singh Indi.
On Friday, the MLA met Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and MP Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal in Ludhiana to discuss a cleanliness drive for Buddha Nullah, according to a report from Hindustan Times.
In August 2024, Gogi made headlines when he demolished the foundation stone of a pipeline project for Buddha Nullah, which he himself had inaugurated in 2022. Frustrated by delays in the project, Gogi voiced his concerns, prompting Speaker Sandhwan to promise strict action against any obstacles to the clean-up initiative.
Before his tragic death, Gogi visited the Prachin Sheetla Mata Mandir on Friday and assured devotees that he would address a recent burglary at the temple, where silver items had been stolen two days earlier.
