In a decisive move against drug peddlers, the Awantipora Police has attached a double-storied residential house valued at approximately twelve lacs, belonging to the notorious drug peddler Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo. Makroo, son of Late Ab Rehman Makroo, is a resident of Gulzarpora, Awantipora. This action was taken under section 68-F of the NDPS Act 1985.
The residential house was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of the investigation/enquiry conducted by Police Awantipora. It was found that the property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the owner. Notably, Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo is involved in Case FIR numbers 20/2017 and 30/2022 of PS Awantipora.
Currently, the notorious drug peddler is detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and is lodged at Central Jail Kot Balwal in Jammu.
This action underscores the unwavering commitment of the Police to combat the drug menace. The local residents of the area have lauded the initiative of the Police in attaching immovable property, which has been raised/used from illicit trafficking of narcotics by drug peddlers in the Police District Awantipora. This proactive step aims to disrupt the illicit drug trade and send a strong message against those contributing to the drug menace in the region.
