The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that if beds are unavailable at central government hospitals, patients in waiting are being charged between Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 by brokers to secure a bed.
During a press conference, Aam Aadmi Party Delhi Chief Whip Dilip K Pandey claimed, “What is happening in the central government-run AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi is very surprising… There is a nexus between the hospital management and the brokers. Patients who are refused beds due to unavailability are asked to pay Rs 25,000–50,000 to get a bed registered for themselves.”
Pandey characterized this act as criminal and criticized the central government for allowing brokerage while denying beds at these hospitals, which fall directly under the purview of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Home Minister for the law and order of Delhi.
“The Health Ministry is under Mandaviya. And since it is the national capital, I believe the Prime Minister also knows about this,” said the AAP Chief Whip.
Questioning the silence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the matter, Pandey asked, “Why are you silent on corruption in central government hospitals? I would like to ask the Union Health Minister, Union Home Minister, and the Prime Minister if this does not break your heart.”
