Indian wrestler Reetika Hooda did not advance to the semi-finals in the Women’s 76kg Freestyle category at the Paris Olympics 2024. She was defeated by the top-ranked wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy from Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinals. Despite this, Hooda still has a chance to compete for a bronze medal.
According to the rules, Hooda can only compete for bronze if Kyzy makes it to the final. Should Kyzy advance to the final, Hooda will face the opponent of Kyzy’s semi-finalist.
In their bout, both wrestlers started aggressively. Hooda led 1-0 after the first round, thanks to the 30-second timer rule benefiting India. However, in the second round, despite maintaining her lead, Kyzy managed to equalize the score to 1-1. With Kyzy earning the final point, she was declared the winner.
