Family From Kerala Dies In Kuwait Fire Hours After Returning From Vacation

In a heartbreaking incident, an Indian family of four perished in a fire that erupted in their Kuwait City apartment on Friday night. The tragedy occurred just hours after the family returned from a vacation in Kerala.

Matthews Mulackal, Lini Abraham, his wife, and their two kids have been identified as the victims. The fire, which broke out around 8 p.m. in their second-floor flat in the Abbasiya area, was caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner, according to local authorities and reports from The Arab Times.

The family, originally from Neerattupuram in Alappuzha, had just returned to Kuwait from Kerala around 4 p.m. on Friday. Mathews Mulackal was employed at Reuters, while his wife Lini worked as a staff nurse at Adan Hospital in Al Ahmadi Governorate. Their children were students at Bhavans School in Kuwait.

The fire led to suffocation, as the family was unable to escape the apartment. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has confirmed that it is coordinating with authorities to expedite the repatriation of the family’s remains to India.

This incident follows a recent fire that tragically claimed the lives of 45 Indians in a labor accommodation last month. Major General Khaled Fahd, acting head of the General Fire Force, reported that the fire was successfully brought under control.

The Indian Embassy expressed its profound condolences and assured the family in Kerala of its support. “The Embassy @indembkwt expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of Mr. Mathews Mulackal, his wife, and their two children due to the fire in Abbasiya last night,” the embassy stated on social media.
