President Droupadi Murmu was accorded a warm reception by people at Badampahar in Odisha’s Rairangpur in the Mayurbhanj district on Thursday as she came home nearly a year after her election as President of India.
The President was received by Governor of Odisha Prof. Ganeshi Lal and Union Minister of State Bishweswar Tudu upon her arrival. President is on a 3-day visit to her home state Odisha. During her visit, Murmu will visit Rairangpur, Pahadpur and Baripada in the Mayurbhanj district.
According to President’s Secretariat, President Murmu will lay the foundation stones for the Skill Training Hub and Community Centre at Pahadpur on Thursday. Subsequently, she will visit Brahma Kumaris Centre, Hatbadra where she will launch the ‘Addiction Free Odisha’ campaign of Brahma Kumaris Centre.
On the same evening, the President will attend a civic reception to be hosted in her honour by the Rairangpur Municipality at Rairangpur Stadium.
President Murmu will reach her native village in Odisha
President Droupadi Murmu will be visiting her native Rairangpur on Friday, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district for the first time after assuming office, according to officials.
The President will leave from the President’s House at 7 am on Thursday, May 4, 2023, and land at Koleikunda Airport in West Bengal by a special plane from Palam Airport before making a special IAF MI-17 helicopter landing at Badampahad Helipad at 10:15 am. Murmu is scheduled to visit her in-law’s Pahadpur village in a special car to pay tribute to her late husband, Shyam Charan Murmu, and lay the cornerstone of a community centre at SLS Trust School to be built by NABARD and skill development centre on behalf of L&T Company. It stated, “She would leave at 12:30 PM and head to the Brahmakumari Centre at Satuputiya in Hatbadada to launch the Drug-Free Odisha campaign after spending some time with the school pupils and villagers. She will be visiting the Rairangpur Municipal Office and will lay a wreath at the Madhusudan Das statue.
“At 4:25, after hoisting a 100-foot national flag at Badabandh, at 4:35 p.m., she will visit the Rairangpur Municipal Office and pay a wreath at the statue of Madhusudan Das. Following that, there is a discussion programme with locals from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Meeuldiha bungalow by attending the Rairangpur Municipality at the stadium. After spending the night in Bengal she will leave at 7:55 am on 05.05.2023 and go to Rairangpur residence. On the anniversary of Pandit Raghunath Murmu’s birth, she will leave from there at 8.40 am and travel to Dandbosh to place a wreath at his statue. She will then depart by helicopter at 9:15 a.m., land at the Jashipur helipad at 10:00 a.m. and take a special vehicle on the road to Similpal National Park. She will then take a flight to the district headquarters. She will arrive at the Baripada helipad at 5:25 PM and remain there. After talking with the locals from 6 to 7 in the evening, they will spend the night,” it read.
According to the secretariat, on Saturday she will reach Maharaja Sri Ramachandra Bhanjdeo University for the convocation program Baripada Taktpur.
