I am the Vijaynagar empire the world must know,
On the banks of the Tungabhadra my civilization did grow.
I grew around the boulders and trees of the Kishkinda forest,
Where Lord Rama did meet Hanuman on his south bound quest.
I chose the city of Hampi as the capital of my kingdom,
Where flourished art, trade, culture under my bosom.
Tales of my glorious city grew far and wide,
Traveller’s from the world over came to be part of the wealth it did provide.
For two hundred years I stood tall and strong,
It’s a pity that my people don’t know,
To what a great past they belong.
