A Delhi court has granted bail to Deepak Ramdani, an accused in a cheating and extortion case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Ramdani was arrested in August 2021 for allegedly acting as a cash courier for Chandrasekhar.
The court granted bail considering Ramdani’s prolonged custody of three years and the fact that some co-accused in the case have already been released on bail. The court also noted that the trial is yet to commence.
Ramdani was accused of being involved in a conspiracy with Chandrasekhar to cheat and extort Japna Singh by impersonating a Union Law Secretary. The prosecution argued against bail, citing evidence linking Ramdani to the crime, including recovered phone data and money transfers.
Despite the prosecution’s opposition, the court found that the charges against Ramdani did not warrant the stringent provisions of the MCOCA and granted him bail.
The case against Sukesh Chandrasekhar and his associates is ongoing.
