The water level in the Pranmati River in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has increased extremely following continuous rainfall in the state, this season, which has seen several landslides, houses collapsing and massive flooding.
On Friday, the authorities alerted the locals in the area to make sure they are safe, according to the officials.
According to Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, River Pranmati in Chamoli district has swollen due to heavy downpours. The district magistrate further said that no damage or casualties have been reported from the area and that locals were alerted about the rise in the water levels of the river beforehand to ensure their safety.
Himanshu Khurana added, “There has been no cloudburst in Chamoli’s Tharali, but the water in the Pranmati River has increased to a great extent. The administration had already issued an alert in the area, so there is no information about any kind of damage.”
The excessive water entered into houses in Kaluwala in Dehradun due to the heavy and continuous rainfall. SDRF personnel reached the spot immediately and are engaged in constant efforts to help the affected locals. On Thursday, they also carried out rescue operations to help the locals.
As per the official estimates, 52 people died due to rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand this monsoon season while another 37 people have sustained injuries.
