Professor Indu Pal Kaur, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor and Professor of Pharmaceutics, former Chairperson of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, has received a prestigious invitation as a “Special Guest to the Government of India” to witness the historic commemoration of the 75th Republic Day.
This honour is in recognition of her significant contributions to the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The invitation comes directly from the office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of India. The Government of India has graciously arranged for all travel expenses, hotel accommodation, and program escort.
The agenda for the occasion includes participation in the Republic Day Parade, high tea, an interaction with the Hon’ble Minister, and local sightseeing.
The Government of India has chosen to invite distinguished patent holders who have made substantial contributions in the field of science and technology, recognizing their role in India’s economic development.
Professor Kaur, with over three decades of contribution to Pharmaceutical Sciences and IPR, has received accolades such as the National Intellectual Property Award 2021 & 2022 for Top Indian Individual for Patents Filing, Grant & Commercialization, and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Medal for Inventors in 2023.
She was also recognized by the US Embassy and the USPTO for her IP value on World Intellectual Property Day 2023 under a social media campaign called “The Value of Her IP.”
Expressing her gratitude, Professor Kaur stated, “It is indeed a great honor to be acknowledged as a Distinguished Patent Holder by the Government of India.”
With a wealth of experience spanning over 34 years in teaching and research, Professor Kaur has successfully transferred four technologies developed in her lab to the industry. She holds 17 Indian patents and one US patent out of 32 filed patent applications.
