During the Lok Sabha elections, the possibility of a united fight by opposition parties in the India alliance, one after the other, to challenge BJP, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has almost ended in Punjab. Under this, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s supreme Arvind Kejriwal have announced candidates on all seats. Meanwhile, Congress has sounded the bugle for the Lok Sabha elections in the form of a rally by its National President Mallikarjun Kharge.
However, during this rally, efforts were made by Kharge to instill unity among workers to win in the Lok Sabha elections, but the ongoing internal and public fight within the party regarding Navjot Singh Sidhu is not coming to an end. Amidst this, Congress is gearing up to create another controversy regarding the selection process of candidates during the Lok Sabha elections, under which applications for tickets are being sought from contenders even for the seats of current MPs.
There is no guarantee that those who will try to get tickets for the seats of current MPs will support those MPs again as candidates by the party in the future, leading to a possible loss for Congress. This decision to demand applications for tickets on the seats of current MPs could prove to be a risky deal for Congress, as indicated during the meetings conducted by Pradesh Prabhari Devendra Yadav regarding the Lok Sabha seat-wise meetings held in Amritsar, Ropar, which have already seen unrest.
