tion is making preparations for fire safety and rescue services for the Diwali festival. During the Diwali ceremony, Mayor Anoop Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra reviewed the preparations for fire safety and rescue services. The meeting was held on Thursday at the Fire Station, Sector 17, Chandigarh, and was attended by Gurinder Singh Sodhi, Joint Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer, all station fire officers, deputy fire officers, leading firefighters, and firefighters. During the meeting, the Commissioner directed them to ensure that fire-fighting vehicles and personnel reach emergency locations in the shortest possible time to minimize loss and damage. To ensure that essential medical supplies are available, all fire stations, along with vehicles’ primary medical kits, should be inspected. Since Diwali sees a significant increase in the number of vehicles on the city’s roads and a large number of people going to markets, lighting oil lamps, and setting off fireworks, it is necessary to formulate and implement plans and measures for fire safety and rescue in various areas, sensitive points, heavy traffic, etc. So that maximum manpower, vehicles, equipment, and machinery are easily available to deal with any emergency. Fire station officers/firefighters must be kept on high alert during the festive season. Additionally, their weekly offs and leaves are to be canceled for these four consecutive days starting from November 10, 2023, in order to make maximum manpower available to tackle any emergencies. To ensure an unobstructed flow of traffic and pedestrians and minimize noise pollution, strict action will be taken against unauthorized vendors encroaching on roads, parking, etc. The Mayor and Commissioner also extended their Diwali greetings to all the firefighters and distributed sweets.
