The politics in the Municipal Corporation has heated up over payments to contractors, leading to demands for convening a general council meeting. The Payment Approval Committee has been facing several issues related to the payments for various works done by contractors, including marking of parking spaces, signboards, monkey control, cleanliness, and other tasks. Councilors are coming together to demand a halt to the payments for these works. Despite objections raised by Councilor Vishal Garg, a member of the Payment Approval Committee, the Municipal Corporation is proceeding with payments to contractors for these tasks, causing discontent among the councilors.
Several councilors have united in writing letters to the executive officer, demanding an investigation into the non-payment and urging the executive officer to stop the payments until a thorough examination is conducted. Despite the objection expressed by Vishal Garg in the Payment Approval Committee, there is widespread dissatisfaction among the councilors over the Municipal Corporation’s decision to proceed with payments to contractors for these works. Now, there is a growing demand among the councilors to halt payments to these contractors.
Councilors argue that a letter has been written to the executive officer, stating that if payments are still made, they will soon approach higher authorities in Chandigarh to demand an investigation and action against the relevant officials. Additionally, councilors have also called for a general council meeting to address these issues.
They assert that in the general meeting, this matter will be raised with vigor, and Chairperson Saroj Rathi will be asked for an explanation.
