Parliament Budget Session extended till February 10

The ongoing Budget Session of Parliament has been extended until February 10, with the primary purpose of facilitating the presentation of a White Paper comparing the state of the Indian economy before and after 2014.

To ensure sufficient time for addressing crucial government matters, the Lok Sabha’s current budget session has been prolonged until Saturday, February 10. It’s noteworthy that there will be no Question Hour session on this extended date.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the Rajya Sabha, responded to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address on Wednesday. During his speech, he criticized the previous Congress-led UPA government, accusing them of compromising the nation’s territory and fueling divisive narratives. Modi also alleged that the Congress was attempting to sow discord by promoting a “north-south divide.” Additionally, he targeted Congress Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge for his ‘400 paar’ remark and referred to TMC leader Mamata Banerjee’s prediction that Congress might not secure more than 40 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The Lower House concluded the Interim Budget exercise with the passage of the Finance Bill, 2024. The Interim Budget was presented by the Union Finance Minister on February 1, the second day of the ongoing Budget Session. Initially scheduled to conclude on February 9, the session has now been extended by a day till February 10, starting with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the two Houses on January 31.
