Mumbai: Noted filmmaker Subhash Ghai has said that OTT platforms have expanded during the pandemic, but they cannot become an alternative to multiplexes and cinema halls in the country. He was speaking at a webinar organised by Abhilasha Production in collaboration with National Skill Development Council.
Ghai, however, emphasised that the digital platform has created “a new world” for the skilled youngster and content curator. “Now you can become an actor, director and entrepreneur. If the content is powerful then it is easy to get monetisation. A producer is ready to invest in your content,” he added.
During the webinar, the speakers highlighted that the OTT platforms have emerged as the biggest means of entertainment during the lockdown. According to statistical data, the subscription revenue of the OTT platforms was Rs 1,200 crore in 2019 and is estimated to reach Rs 7,400 crore by 2024.
