A video of a dramatic standoff between women devotees and security officials at the Radha Rani Temple in Barsana, Mathura, has gone viral on social media recently. The incident, which took place on Saturday, April 12, was recorded by a bystander and has since been viewed over 11,000 times.
The video captures a physical fight at the temple gate, where some female devotees are fighting with a female security officer. As the clash grew, male guards stepped in and attempted to push the women away from the security officer. In vain, the female devotees persisted with their attack, which prompted one of the male guards eventually to push a woman to the ground in an effort to regain control. Eventually, after some time, the fight dissipated, and the devotees entered the temple.
One social media user posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), captioning it: “Mathura-Barsana’s world-famous Radharani temple. Security personnel at the temple attacked devotees who came for darshan from Punjab! Don’t know why incidents of violence against devotees in temples have been increasing lately?”

The video evoked different reactions from the audience. One user wrote, “Worship at home.”. There is generally some risk for the believers in temples.” Another person commented, “These devotees come a long way to get blessings and prasad because the temple in their locality does not give them that. All these temples have become commercial hubs.” A third person added jokingly, “Prasad’s form has changed.” Some of the viewers also pointed out that the security staff must be investigated, with one stating, “Security staff should be investigated; they might be victims of a bad mentality.”
In reaction to the incident, Raj Kamal Yadav, the in-charge officer of the nearby police station, said that no complaint had been lodged by the devotees. But he assured that the viral video would be scrutinized carefully and action would be taken accordingly. Reports indicate that the scuffle started when the female security guard requested the devotees to use a different gate to enter the temple. When the devotees supposedly acted improperly with the officer, things got out of hand and the other guards had to step in.
